What is your most memorable outdoor experience?  Roasting your first marshmallow? Discovering that you could hike up that big mountain? Or was it seeing the milky way for the first time? If you have ever been camping, then you know the power of that experience. CAP provides opportunities for local youth that traditionally have not visited their national parks the benefits of a camping experience by providing an economical, supportive and accessible system for teachers and leaders to bring their youth camping in their local national park...are you up for the challenge?

Natural History Guide
An exciting new resource for San Francisco teachers!

Finding Urban Nature: An Educators’ Guide to Exploring San Francisco Natural History (The FUN Guide) is not curriculum or a book of activities. It is written for educators who have an interest in natural history to help locate and learn about parks and natural areas near their schools, as well as provide enough background information for educators to feel comfortable exploring these areas with their students.

WISE is an exciting environmental science lab course for high school students and their teachers!

Project WISE utilizes the Presidio's watersheds as outdoor classrooms. Students learn about environmental issues facing their park and communities and explore sustainable solutions through experimentation, analysis, and critical thinking. A combination of authentic hands-on science and technology, teambuilding and civic engagement make this an exciting addition to the classroom.

Now accepting nominations for the 2009 Community Heroes Award!
Do you know someone who has worked tirelessly to improve their environment?  Has the individual or group inspired others to take action and improved the quality of life for their community?  If yes, nominate them to be the next Community Hero.  Recipients have their work showcased in a year-long exhibit at the Crissy Field Center and are recognized at the annual Community Heroes Award Ceremony in May. Nominations are due December 1st so don’t delay.

Learn About Your Local Community Heroes

Every year the Crissy Field Center celebrates San Francisco Bay environmental heroes. Groups and individuals are eligible for nominations. Community Heroes Award Ceremony event is open to the public and presents an amazing opportunity to learn more about issues and solutions to local environmental problems. Their stories are featured on our website and displayed in a year-long exhibit at the Crissy Field Center.
